City of Stonecrest's goal is to create a walkable community, thereby promoting healthy lifestyle and provide alternate mode of travel to schools, shopping centers, parks, and recreational facilities. The City will be working on providing walking access for school children, connecting neighborhoods, and providing walking access to City parks and other public facilities. In addition, the City promotes improving customer traffic to retail businesses, and improving access to public transportation.
The City of Stonecrest owns, and DeKalb County Public Works Department maintains an extensive network of sidewalks heavily used by residents. City of Stonecrest has not constructed any sidewalks since the incorporation of the City in 2018 due to lack of funding and prioritizing street paving over sidewalk projects.
Sidewalk design, construction and construction management are funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
City of Stonecrest completed a Transportation Master Plan in 2020, and Council adopted this plan in September 2020. Transportation master plan recommends short-term, mid-term and long-term transportation projects. Several sections of sidewalks mainly filling the gap of missing sections are identified in the short-term and mid-term sidewalk construction projects.
