City of Stonecrest to Invest Millions in Parks and Recreation

The City of Stonecrest recently approved a landmark $3.84 million investment to enhance its parks and recreation facilities, underscoring the City Council's commitment to improving residents' quality of life and promoting community wellbeing.

This funding, part of the City's Fiscal Year 2025 $30.1 million budget, will pay for significant upgrades, including the construction of a new botanical garden, major renovations to several parks, and improvements to the city’s only recreation center.

“These investments reflect our dedication to fostering a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive community,” said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. “We are proud to advance these projects, which will serve as a catalyst for both recreational and cultural enrichment.”

Project Highlights

Southeast Athletic Complex:

  • Conversion of an existing softball field into a baseball field.
  • Installation of a new dog park and two pickleball courts.
  • Construction of updated restrooms, enhanced signage, and newly added parking spaces.

Fairington Park:

  • Development of a 65-acre botanical garden, a first for Stonecrest.
  • Resurfacing of the parking lot and repairs to the athletic fields irrigation system.
  • Construction of new restroom facilities.

Everett Park:

  • Expansion of parking to better accommodate visitors.

Browns Mill Recreation Center:

  • Addition of new lighting, upgraded signage, expanded classroom space, and renovated restroom and concession facilities.
  • Planned replacement of the basketball gym floor, complementing earlier updates to the tennis courts and the addition of two new permanent outdoor pickleball courts.

Enhancing Community Spaces

These comprehensive improvements aim to create welcoming, accessible, and multi-functional spaces for residents of all ages. The new botanical garden at Fairington Park will serve as a tranquil retreat, while the enhanced  athletic facilities will provide opportunities for physical activity and community gatherings.

Director of Parks and Recreation Kelly Ledbetter believes the improvements will signficantly create more opportunities for City programming.

“These upgrades will position Stonecrest as a hub for athletic leagues and tournaments, bringing both recreational and economic benefits to our community,” said Ledbetter. “From youth sports to regional events, our parks and recreation facilities will encourage residents of all ages to live a healthy lifestyle.”

Mayor Cobble agrees.

“We are committed to delivering spaces that inspire and unite our community,” added Cobble. “These projects are an investment in the future of Stonecrest.”
