The City of Stonecrest has begun intersection safety improvements at Rockland Road and Turner Hill Road. The intersection improvements include the installation of a solar powered flashing stop sign, roadside mowing, and tree branch trimming. These actions represent the initial phase of the City’s multiphase plan to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians throughout Stonecrest.
“Safety is a top priority,” said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. “Stonecrest’s Transportation Master Plan, which was developed with public input, served as our official roadmap in identifying transportation needs and priorities within the city. I am happy to see the start of this important project, and to announce that there will be additional safety upgrades at this location and at several intersections in Stonecrest.”
The improvements at the intersection of Rockland Road and Turner Hill Road are near the border of Stonecrest’s District 1 and District 5.
Councilwoman, District 1, Tara Graves added, “Safety is definitely a top priority in Stonecrest! The recent upgrade is just one step in the right direction. I am looking forward to more safety measures implemented in our community.”
The safety improvements are provided through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds.
“We are listening to our residents and area stakeholders and taking action to help save lives,” said Councilwoman, District 5, Tammy Grimes. “This safety project is just the beginning.”
The City of Stonecrest, in partnership with DeKalb County and Georgia Department of Transportation officials, will continue to review safety improvements and traffic calming options. The improvements will include construction of roundabouts, solar powered flashing stop signs, upgraded striping, milling and resurfacing of intersections, solar powered pedestrian activated flashing beacons, and more.
