Committees, boards, and commissions are formed as a collaborative way for citizens, city staff, and elected officials to provide professional insight and recommendations to leadership to efficiently and effectively manage city resources. They also provide an opportunity for residents, business leaders, and others to become more engaged in local government.
The formation of these groups is based on provisions within the city’s charter. In Stonecrest, committees, boards, and commissions are formed by City Council. Members of committees are recommended by individual council members and then approved by the whole body for appointment. Members are usually selected based on their expertise within a given field as it relates to the particular committee. Terms of service are voluntary and specific to each group. Each committee, board, or commission elects a chair, vice chair, and other leadership roles to help manage the group's activities.
