GDOT Announces Temporary Weeknight Overnight Lane Closure Advisory for the I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project

What:

Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will close interstate lanes at the locations below for the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project, which will improve traffic flow and safety at the busy interchange. The project is reconstructing the interstate system-to-system ramps at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange and add a combination of connecting lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange. For daily traffic impacts and real-time traffic alerts, please visit Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org.

When/Where:

Lane closures cannot exceed approximately two miles at any given time. The beginning and end points may be moved in two-mile increments between the cross streets indicated above, as necessary.

Lane closures help ensure safety for workers and drivers through the project area as crews continue milling, inlay and resurfacing to improve the deteriorating roadway. This project is scheduled for completion in spring 2023.

This closure allows crews to perform soil testing or engineering design before major construction begins in Q2 2023.

Advisory: Exact times may change due to weather conditions. There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
